How this guidance is produced
Every requirement stated on CustomsHero traces back to a published CBSA, CRA or Global Affairs Canada source. This page sets out the rules that guidance follows, how often it is rechecked, and what to do when you find something wrong.

Primary sources only
Guidance is written from primary sources: the Customs Act and its regulations, CBSA D-Memoranda, CBSA and CRA program pages, the Canadian Export Reporting System documentation, and the Customs Tariff. Competitor blogs, forum threads and broker marketing are not used as sources, even where they happen to be right.
Each guide ends with the list of sources it was written from, linked directly. If a claim in the body cannot be traced to one of them, it should not be there — tell us and it comes out.
Every page carries a date
Each guide shows when it was published and when it was last checked against its sources. A checked date that has not moved in a year means exactly that: nobody has rechecked it since. We would rather show a stale date than imply a freshness we have not earned.
Pages covering rules that move on a schedule — CARM releases, surtax and remission orders, CERS thresholds and exemption codes — are rechecked more often, and say so on the page.
What the compliance checkers do
The import and export checkers ask a short set of questions and match your answers against the same requirement corpus the guides are written from. They return the requirements that apply to you, each with its official link.
They are a triage tool. They never see your goods, your invoices or your import history, so they cannot determine your tariff classification, your valuation method, or whether a particular shipment is admissible. Anything that turns on those is flagged for a licensed broker rather than answered.
Corrections
Regulatory guidance that is quietly wrong is worse than no guidance at all. If something here is out of date, incomplete or simply mistaken, send it through the contact form with the page and, if you have it, the source that contradicts us.
A verified factual error is corrected as soon as it is confirmed, and the page's checked date moves with the correction.
