Everything on this site is general information about published Canadian customs requirements. It is not legal advice, not customs advice within the meaning of the Customs Act, and not a substitute for a licensed customs broker, a trade lawyer or an advance ruling from the CBSA.
You remain the importer or exporter of record. Responsibility for the accuracy of what is declared to the CBSA — classification, valuation, origin, permits and reporting — is yours under the Customs Act, and nothing you read here transfers it to us.
No warranty
The guidance is provided as is. We work from primary sources and recheck them, but regulations change, transitional measures expire and official pages move. We do not warrant that the site is complete, current or free of error, and we are not liable for loss arising from decisions taken on the basis of it — including penalties, delays, detained goods or reassessments.
The compliance checkers return a triage result from a short questionnaire, not a determination. Treat their output as a list of things to verify.
Broker referrals
When you submit a quote request, your details are passed to one or more licensed Canadian customs brokers, and we may be paid a referral fee if you engage one. We do not supervise those brokers, we are not party to any agreement you reach with them, and their service is theirs to deliver.
Verify any broker against the CBSA's official list of licensed customs brokers before engaging them. We link to that list precisely so you can.
Using the content
You may read, print and share these pages, and quote from them with attribution and a link. You may not republish a guide wholesale, or scrape the site to rebuild the requirement corpus elsewhere.
Official texts quoted or linked from these pages remain the property of the Crown and are reproduced under the terms that apply to Government of Canada publications.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Québec and the laws of Canada applicable there, and the courts of Québec have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute.
If any part of these terms is held unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
